"We're at war."

Thus says Dennis R. Schrader, director of homeland security for Maryland, when asked what he thinks of "privacy concerns" over the installation of a vast network of cameras in the Baltimore region to be monitored by an army of retired police officers and, uh, college students.

Just another great college funding scheme? If this has anything to do with terrorists, what will the ever-vigiliant students of Baltimore look for? People wandering the streets in ski masks?

If this system is set up, any bets how many days (hours?) before the students get caught focusing the cameras on female body parts?

We're in Monty Python territory here: "...The police are anxious to speak to anyone who saw the crime, ladies with large breasts, or just anyone who likes policemen."

I don't know who this "regional group of leaders" was composed of, but some details seem completely inane:

The network could also hook up to closed-circuit cameras in city schools during a possible terrorist attack, according to the city's request for proposals.

City schools? During a terrorist attack? What?
