I'd like to join the chorus and say we wuz robbed, but a soberer analysis would suggest that justice was done at (literally) the last minute.
Posted by Alan Allport at June 14, 2004 06:11 AMIt was a match that England lost rather than one the French won. And let's not beat around the bush it was the boy Beckham and his failure to convert a well-won penalty that was to blame. Why he is accorded near god-like status is quite beyond me.

You have an odd idea of justice--but we knew that.

Real Madrid's recent purchase of said pseudo-God has I think a lot more to do with his importance as a global marketing phenomenon than it does with his pitch performance.

Cripes, where were you watching from? For once I got to go to the pub where they had a live pay-per-view feed at a reasonable afternoon hour. Favourite overheard quote of the match (from a bemused American bystander a few feet away): "So they have black people in France too?"
