Joel just said "Bush and Major" when he meant "Bush and Blair" and I realized it didn't sound strange to me either. A sign of something more than transatlantic ignorance I think.
Posted by Martha Bridegam at June 10, 2005 05:58 PMThe difference between Blair and Major is that Blair could have been leader of the tories (quite easily), but Major, close as he was to being a w*nky leftist, couldn't have been leader in Old Labour or New Labour. In an interview that Blair gave the Sunday Times the week before the election (he was wearing Ugg snowboots and pyjamas- an outfit you couldn't imagine Major wearing) he said: 'I could sort the tories out; I could sort them out in five minutes.'
He refused to explain what he'd do: presumably get Barnsley's answer Goebbels, Alistair Campbell and that crook Mandelson to 'create the truth.'
The brain fart that would have been accurate would have been to say Bush and *Thatcher* for it was she who invented Tony Blair.
