Nice article.

Friday I heard Fulton Sheen on the radio speculating that the two men in the Good Samaritan story who'd passed the victim by had likely reported him to an official charity once they'd gotten where they were going.

Or at least consoled their consciences by forming the intention to do so, I suppose.

Reminds me of Dear Abby's paranoid advice never to stop and help any hitchhikers or drivers with engine trouble for fear of being ambushed by fakers not really in need.

I like the part about how the amount of money you give away should be enough to "pinch". Otherwise, of course, you have not successfully expiated yourself, such things typically requiring some form of self-inflicted pain.
